Installing Graffiti

To run an ASP.Net application locally, you need to have access to a database server and Internet Information Services (Microsoft's web server software). Developers will usually have both of these tools installed, but designers and more casual users may not.

Procedure

  1. Ensure your server meets the system requirements for installing Graffiti.
  2. From http://graffiticms.com, select Get It Now.

When you complete the membership page, click Join Now. The downloading page displays. If the File Download window does not display after 10 seconds, click please click here.

  1. When the File Download dialog displays, click Save to save the zipped Graffiti files to your computer.
  2. Extract the files to a folder on your computer. You can FTP them to your server or load them directly onto your computer.
  3. After the extraction process is complete, navigate to the parent folder into which you extracted the files. Along with a number of files, Graffiti extracts two folders – Web and Data – and loads them into the parent folder.

Telligent recommends that you carefully read the EULA and readme.htm files.

  1. Select the child Web folder and copy it and its contents to your Web site folder or virtual directory. This is the root location of your web files. It could be your own server, a shared server, etc. If you have a hosting account, your provider should have given you a location to put your Web files.
  2. Navigate to the child Web folder in your root directory.
  3. Double-click graffiti_demo.exe. You may see a Firewall Alert box. If so, click Unblock. Your browser will open.
  4. Add /graffiti-admin/ to the URL to open the login page.

To log in, you must obtain the password from your web.config file, which is located in your Graffiti application root folder. Use the value from <add key="Graffiti:User:DefaultPassword">. After you log in the first time, Telligent recommends you change your user name and password immediately. See user roles for more information.

When you login for the first time, the dashboard will be empty because there is no content in the database.
